Daytona 500
Luck and Superstition

There's a lot of superstitions in NASCAR.

Green Cars are bad luck.

The number 13 is bad luck.

Peanuts are bad luck.

And so on and so forth.

So I must pose this question. Am I bad luck?

Take the following pictures as examples.

Chrissy Wallace was making her first NASCAR Nationwide start at Daytona. Her Father, Uncle and Cousin were all in the race too so we thought that'd make a cool story. I followed Chrissy Wallace around for the entire pre-race and then planted myself firmly in her pit as the race started.

And then there's Austin Dillon, making his first Daytona start in the Camping World Truck series, brining the famous number 3 back to the Daytona International Speedway for the first time since Dale Earnhardt died driving the 3 at this track in 2001.

We've been following Austin around for more than a month, visiting him at High Point University where he's in college and I even went out to the dirt track where he won a qualifying feature this past Sunday.

Both drivers making their first starts in the two respective series'. Both Drivers with lots of family history. Both drivers with me following their every move for feature stories.

BOTH Drivers CRASHED OUT of their races before completing even a single lap.

Now again I ask. Am I bad luck?

Although Chrissy was driving a green car.

Just for the record, I'm not going anywhere near Jeff Burton on Sunday!

Sweet pea, you were their good luck charm! They could've been hurt (or worse) under different circumstances, right?

But... um... stay away from the #14 car, just in case.
